Maybe it’s because it’s Halloween Night, but there’s something rather irresistible about the sight of a carpet of dead leaves, isn’t there? But drag your eyes – and mind – away from the leaves for a moment, and consider the horse sculpture standing rather proudly in this garden, photographed for us by Mark Bolton last autumn. How would it, or something similar, look in your own outdoor space? Now is the time to think about it, when your garden is all bare bones and open spaces and you can see what will work best where.
PS. Let fallen leaves lie just a little bit longer (of course, don’t let them become a hazard, so do clear paths and terraces); beneficial insects and invertebrates will thank you.
